Long famous as one of the key growers for the Chardonnay that won the famed1976 Judgement of Paris Tasting, the Bacigalupi family are winegrowing icons in the Russian River Valley. This Chardonnay comes from a property that neighbors our MacRostie Estate House on Westside Road—the acclaimed Bacigalupi Frost Ranch.

  • Tasting Notes
This Chardonnay has a brilliant medium yellow color, with enticing white floral, tropical fruit, and citrus aromas. On the soft, rich palate, lush silky layers of green apple, lime pith, mango, and honeysuckle mingle with hints of toasty oak spice. The acid-fruit balance of this Chardonnay makes it perfectly delicious on its own or paired with your favorite washed rind cheese (may we suggest Époisses).

  • Production Notes
2019 brought a moderately cool growing season. Our prized block of BacigalupiChardonnayis quite unique, with a mix of younger vines, along with thick, gnarly trunked decades-old vines. The vineyard was propagated with heritage budwood selections, which provide a natural diversity of flavors from vine to vine. As harvest drew near, the weather turned warm providing a final push to ripeness. We harvested our Bacigalupi Chardonnay on September 19th, 2019.
  • Winemaker Notes
In order to maximize quality, the harvested grapes went directly to press as whole clusters and were gently pressed. This provides a distinct mouthfeel texture. After settling, the juice was racked into French oak barrels for fermentation. The wine spent its entire life in barrel, where it completed primary and secondary malolactic fermentations. It was aged on the lees for 10 months in 29% new French oak barrels, and 29% once-filled French oak barrels to complete elevage. In order to increase richness and body, it was occasionally stirred to suspend the lees and soften the texture. It was bottled on August 20, 2020.
