Tasting NotesOpulent in the glass, this wine has a garnet color and ripe black currant aromas. The palate is dynamic and bright, with vibrant flavors of plum, baking spice and cocoa underscored by a firm, acid-driven structure and fine dusty tannins that carry through to a lingering finish.

Wine OriginBecause the 2018 growing season was one of naturally high yields, we worked closely with our grower partners to thin the fruit in order to bring each vineyard into ideal balance. The clusters ripened slowly, and in general, 2018 was a late harvest. Fruit came in pristine and healthy starting September 10th through September 18th of 2018.

Production NotesThe majority of the grapes were destemmed into small-lot fermenters to capture the uniqueness of each site. About 15% of our fruit was fermented with whole clusters to add fruit aromas and rich complexity to the final wine. Following a two-week fermentation, the lots were drained from the skins and put into French oak barrels to age for ten months. 21% new oak was used during aging to accentuate the structure and color of the wine, without overwhelming the delicate aromas of this fine coastal Pinot Noir. We bottled on August 23rd of 2019.

Winemaker NotesThe grapes for this Pinot Noir came from a handful of top vineyards throughout the Sonoma Coast AVA, with a focus on some of the finest sub-appellations within the region. The blend includes grapes from our Thale’s Estate Vineyard in the heart of the Russian River Valley, Dale Ricci’s Vineyard in Carneros, Noble Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, and Wohler Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Due to the cool coastal influences that shape the climate at all of these vineyards, they produce amazing Pinot Noir. At the same time, the diversity of these sites creates the foundation for complex aromatics and beautifully layered flavors in the final blend.
