Sourced from the heart of the Russian River Valley where fertile soils lead to healthy vines that produce classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir aromas and flavors that are immediately alluring.

  • Tasting Notes
This Pinot Noir has a deep, opulent color and intense aromas that are immediately alluring. Exotic layers of white pepper, herbs, black cherry and cocoa waft from the glass with a gentle swirl. On the palate, sumptuous red fruit flavors are supported by mouth-coating tannins that carry the wine to a long, lush finish.
  • Wine Origin
Wohler is a beautiful vineyard that runs along Wohler Road in the heart of the Russian River Valley. It is planted on the valley floor where dense fog frequently settles, keeping the ripening progress slow and steady. The site’s fertile soils lead to healthy vines that produce classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir aromas and flavors.
  • Production Notes
The 2017 vintage followed a cool, very wet winter. The soils were moist and rich, which required extra meticulous care with cover crop management and canopy management. There was a heat spike at the end of August which prompted us to pick this vineyard in early September. The vineyard is planted to Dijon Clone 777, which delivers lively fruit and a dark, concentrated color. To ensure that the fruit was delivered to the winery cool, and in pristine condition, the grapes were harvested by hand the night of September 6th, 2017.
  • Winemaker Notes
We used a new fermentation technique on this vineyard in 2017. We destemmed the fruit into a closed-top fermenter, which increased the extraction and gave this wine an exotic spiced aroma, as well as deep color intensity. Inoculation with select yeast strains followed a three-day cold soak, and the caps were managed exclusively with pump-overs (since it was in a closed tank). The wine was put into French oak barrels, 40% of which were new, and 20% one-year-old. After 10 months of aging, the wine was bottled on August 14th, 2018.
