Putnam Vineyard is high-elevation, coastal site just 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean. With just 5 barrels produced, our first release from this vineyard won't be available long. It has notes of berry cobbler, with a full and rich mid-palate. The oak is subtle, and brings to mind aromas of a cedar chest and graham cracker spice.

  • Tasting Notes
This Pinot Noir has an attractive garnet color and exudes aromas of cranberry, dried rose petal and cinnamon. The palate has notes of berry cobbler, with a full and rich mid-palate. The oak is subtle, and brings to mind aromas of a cedar chest and graham cracker spice.
  • Wine Origin
Putnam Vineyard is located on the far Sonoma Coast, just 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean in the very northwestern part of the appellation near the town of Annapolis. There, cool maritime breezes and the vineyard’s proximity to the Pacific provide optimal growing conditions for Pinot Noir. At 780 feet in elevation, the vines sit above the fog layer giving them the warmth to fully ripen and develop exceptional flavors.
  • Production Notes
The 2016 vintage had warm temperatures that made harvest look like it would come early. A cool spell in August slowed everything down, enabling fruit to ripen evenly and to full maturity without sugars being too high. Clone 115 and Clone 777 were picked from this vineyard on October 10th, 2016.
  • Winemaker Notes
The fruit was gently destemmed into small open-top fermenters, using state-of-the-art equipment and procedures to avoid any pumping of must. Inoculation with select yeast strains followed a three-day cold soak, and the caps were managed with a combination of pump-overs and punch-downs. This wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels—40% new and 20% one-year-old—which enhanced the deep color and broadened the palate of this lovely wine.
