Clockwise—a name that captures many of the elements that are important to us from a winemaking perspective, including timing, wisdom and knowledge. Just like at MacRostie, the winemaking for Clockwise is guided by gifted Winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen and winemaking icon Steve MacRostie. Earlier this year we released a Cabernet Sauvignon. This is its counterpart, a Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend.

  • Tasting Notes
This Bordeaux inspired blend reveals a lovely nose of blackberry, with hints of spice from extended aging in French oak. On the palate, it is soft, supple and deeply nuanced, with lush layers of black cherry, licorice, earth and black tea gliding to a long, silky finish.
  • Accolades
94 Points: Exciting, distinctive; a wine that transcends simple typicity to its region or variety; a vivid, singular expression of place – “Though Steve MacRostie and his winemaker, Heidi Bridenhagen, are best known for chardonnay and pinot noir from their home base in the Russian River Valley and the coast, they produce this new label at their Eighth Street Winery in the town of Sonoma. They purchased the fruit for this cabernet from a vineyard in western Yountville, close to the Oakville border, though they have agreed not to release the name. They went for a muscular style of cabernet, pushing for full extraction, attaining that power and grip while still sustaining supple grace in the tannins. It’s lovely benchland juice, the earthy-brisk tannins suffused with cherry and blueberry highlights up front, so you can almost feel the tannins integrated into the scent of the wine. The wine’s energy pours out in the finish, a spout of blackberry and black currant flavors, a pure flavor of cabernet sauvignon.” – Josh Greene, October 2019, Wine & Spirits
  • Production Notes
Using four of the five traditional varietals, this wine is composed of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Petit Verdot, 16% Merlot and 9% Malbec, yielding a layered and complex Cabernet-based red blend in a more classically Old World style.
  • Winemaker Notes
The grapes were harvested in late September of 2016 and destemmed and crushed into open-top fermenters. During fermentation, the grapes were pumped over two times a day for maximum extraction, with an extended maceration to achieve the color and tannin levels we were looking for. The wine was then pressed off of the skins and aged for almost 36 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Bottling occurred on August 23rd, 2019.
